1. Maximum Achievable Storage Array System Availability

Discussion on the topic of high availability of the storage arrays. Is today's storage array capable of achieving your target availability? Is RAID 0+1 better than RAID 10 or is it the other way around? How does the RAID-5 stack up? Even in theory, some RAID configuration can not achieve what some vendors claim to be features of their products. Take a look at the mathematical analysis of calculation of probability of complex system failure and make your own conclusions.

2. Using Rexx to Publish Mainframe Reports to the Web

Back in the day when everyone thought that mainframes are dying (hey in 1999, Y2000 seemed to be the end of the rope for many), I thought that there's still a lot of mileage in them should their use model just be changed to accommodate new and brave, internet world. Unfortunatly (or fortunately, one never knows), Big Blue has become one of the believers of the mainframe doomsday, and turned all their world upside down on the sphere... web sphere that is... while ignoring the most powerful web server available at the time... eh, if just someone had the vision... well, I did, but my shares were not enough to influence one blue IP address to change, let alone something as big and as hard to turn as Titanic itself...

3. Using JavaScript to Write JavaScript

Now, believe it or not - I wrote this back in 1997. Time flies, and I still haven't seen a more sophisticated technique for client side dynamic presentation than this. C'mon script kiddies, you can do better than this... or not. To truly understand soul, one needs to have it. To create soul, one needs to give it. And I mean in programming languages too, so think about it... your program is as good as your brain is, so when you have a bug in your code, it really means that...
